most comfortable with. Events and actions which were considered atrocious by the loser are most often considered victories or necessities of war by the victor. Despite the varying
viewpoints which are inherent in any reflection on an event or action, most would agree that there are basic criteria that can be used to gauge the appropriateness of a
war. Wars are, of course, waged for any number of reasons. While the reasons behind the war is the first
criteria that is evaluated in a determination of justness, whether a war is a just war or an unjust war is determined on not just the reasons behind the war
but on the specifics of its implementation and its impacts. The classic tests for a just war include an evaluation of 1. the explanation of the reason, 2.
whether those that are being attacked are being attacked with a just cause, 3. whether the war is being fought under the just intention of abating evil and
promoting good, 4. whether other means of rectification have been attempted and war was the last resort, 5. whether weapons and force are beng used only proportionate to
need and whether innocent civilians are being killed, and 6. whether peace will resume at the end of the war. The more of these criteria weigh out negatively
