of the community college is more comprehensive today than in the past. There has been a "gradual shift toward vocational education, job training, and programs catering to the community"
(The changing role of community college, 2003). There are myriad points of impetus for these changes. The American population is changing fabric
in general, and many local areas are more than only significantly affected by these demographic shifts. All of American business was forced to change the manner in which it
operated during the 1980s and 1990s, and it has been the community college that has filled the void created by that change. Universities have come under fire for admitting
students lacking basic skills and then devoting scarce resources to conducting remedial classes. Public education is charged with demonstrating gains, but in the meantime there are students who need
additional work now. Program Development and Leadership The community college plays a crucial role in workforce development in the local area. Students
choose the community college for a variety of reasons, and the applicant using this work needs to consider that the community college needs to maintain constant contact with the local
