Apple survived by becoming a niche market and then diversifying, becoming a diversified firm seeking to gain a competitive advantage through differentiation.
Looking at Apple When the firm started that apple computer and operating system it was a new product, with Steve Jobs as a visionary it started out as an entrepreneurial
business with a vision. The vision was simple and idealistic, and it may be argued was copied later by Bill Gates and Microsoft. Steve Jobs, who founded Apple Computer along
with Steve Wozniak on the first of April 1976 had a mission, he wanted to bring easy to use computers to everyone. These were that days before the dominance of
Microsoft and the Windows operating system and the computer that was launched in 1978, the Apple II was one that had worked towards this goal, it was a computer that
could be used straight out of the box. This was a question mark that developed into a cash cow (Apple, 2009). This launch was successful and Apple started
the grow, with Apple becoming the market leader and by the end of 1980 more than 100,000 Apple IIs were sold. The future may have looked bright, but Apple had
not foreseen the way that the environment would change and the way they competed when IBM entered the market did not sustain their position (Apple, 2009). Initially, when
