Those who are loyal to Apple products are extremely loyal; those who are not do not regard them as serious machines capable of performing serious tasks. Apple’s management has been protective of the products since their inception, but in 2002 the time had come for Apple to acknowledge the fact that creativity exists outside of the Apple complex. entire computer industry suffered a decided and predicted slowdown following the turn of the century (Burrows, 2000). Throughout most of the decade of the 1990s, computer technology changed rapidly,
and hardware became outdated long before it was able to wear out its physical usefulness. Technological advances began to slow in the late 1990s, but by then the specter
of Y2K loomed large. There was much speculation about how the turn of the century would affect the worlds computers and computer systems, but until the new century arrived,
no one could be certain of how systems would react. Those unwilling to take chances bought PCs at a rapid pace in advance of the turn of the century.
Industry analysts warned that the buying spree of 1998 and 1999 would leave sales flat or declining in 2000 and beyond. They
were correct; that is precisely what happened to the PC industry. Even mighty Dell began searching for other products to expand its product line and so survive the decline
