the authors developed the theme of appearance vs. reality in their plays, I was trying to show the distinct difference in tone and writing style that characterizes the two works.
I know both Ibsen and Shakespeare extremely well, so the text was not a problem. What I did enjoy was approaching familiar works in a new way, looking for material
to support my thesis that there is a profound difference in the authors approach to their material. The most difficult part of the paper was finding quotes to support my
arguments. Its often the case that when a person knows a piece of literature well, its easy to make the argument; but then a line-by-line reading is sometimes necessary to
find the precise quote needed to back it up. For example, I love the line of Lady Macbeths, "Stand not upon the order of your going, but go at once"-in
other words, stop dithering around with protocol and get out-but it takes a while to find it to put in the appropriate citation. The papers strengths include the fact that
I know and understand the plays, and that the paper is well-written, correctly spelled and punctuated, and doesnt twist up the syntax like spaghetti. It also offers well-reasoned arguments that
develop the thesis clearly. If I had more time, Id simply try to streamline it and find the most appropriate supporting quotations possible. What I didnt put in was a
