conditions of this particular war the film Apocalypse Now was one of the first. Based on Joseph Conrads novel The Heart of Darkness, which was not a novel about the
Vietnam War, it is a film that depicts many perspectives concerning the Vietnam War but essentially also seems to merely use the war as a backdrop for a powerful story
about the darkness within human beings. The following paper examines how what Apocalypse Now tells or teaches the viewer about the Vietnam War. Apocalypse Now and Vietnam War
First and foremost it should perhaps be understood that a war, any war, is perceived in many ways by those who are involved in the war. For some a war,
the Vietnam War, was something that was horrifically destructive in many ways, damaging ones psychological, spiritual, emotional and sociological strength. For others, perhaps those heavily involved in military discipline, it
was a war that was a waste of time, yet a war that depending on great planning and intelligence. Such people would not perhaps be affected by the traumatic realities
but be of a military mind and take such realities as par for the course in warfare. There may be others who used the war to make their own personal
gains, opportunists who ignored the horrors and did what they could to make a buck. War affects people differently, and as such any depiction of a war will clearly not
address all the ways in which one could see the war or experience it. Any viewer of any war film must recognize this and realize that what a film teaches,
