that created such art. Two famous works of sculptural art are the Statue of the Aphrodite of Knidos, 2nd century A.D. and Statue of Meleager, 55-45 B.C.. the following paper
examines each separately and then combined. Statue of the Aphrodite of Knidos, 2nd century A.D. This particular statue is actually a copy of a very famous work. This
statue was created out of marble in the 2th century A.D., while the original was made in the 2nd century B.C. by the famous Praxiteles (source: student requesting paper).
It stands as a statue without a head, her right hand, and her left arm (These pieces having been lost long ago perhaps). There is a powerful sensuality to the
piece as the figure of the woman is incredibly voluptuous and yet also somewhat masculine, especially when compared with the original from which it found inspiration. In the original she
possessed some drapery of clothing covering the pubic area and the curves to her body were softer. In this particular copy it seems that there is more of a strength
and masculinity, perhaps reflective of the society in which it was made. For all intents and purposes, this particular piece is chosen as a piece of interest, by this reader,
because of that reason. There is something lacking in this sculpture which is present in the original, an element that apparently altered how women were envisioned at the time of
the original piece. In essence, this copy seems to speak multitudes about the man who sculpted it and the Roman society in which he lived. Statue of Meleager,
