The diagnosis of an anxiety disorder or a personality
disorder for any individual suggests a problematic and often debilitation disorder progression that often requires treatment. The presence of more than one of these disorders, including anxiety disorders and
personality disorders (sometimes described as a dual diagnosis) is especially difficult to treat in the clinical setting. For some, the link between the two disorders determines a logical progression
and shapes the treatment process. For others, the diagnosis of more than one fundamental disorder can result in difficulties in effectively treating either of the disorders. In considering these
perspectives, then, it is beneficial to consider the history and diagnostic process for one client, "John A.," who not only has demonstrated characteristics of personality disorder (antisocial personality disorder), but
also demonstrates characteristics of social phobia, an anxiety disorder. Considering the elements of his case and the criteria for diagnosing these disorders is an important part of treatment planning
for this subject. Personal History/Information When John A. was diagnosed with bone cancer in both of his legs at the age of 9, his parents had already
noted that he had a difficulty in addressing reality and his antisocial behaviors seemed sometimes problematic when compared to other children his age. The amputation of both of his
