the film can be understood through the application of Freuds Drive theory. Freuds Drive Theory is based on the argument that individuals are motivated by two basic drives:
sex and aggression (AllPsych, 2003). These drives not only define how a person behaves, but also shapes thoughts and emotions and can influence the formation of interpersonal relationships (AllPsych,
2003; See also Pine, 1985). Essentially, the sexual instinct serves as a motivating factor as a component of species survival (as the basis for reproduction) and aggression relates to
protection from harm and the elimination of threats to procreation (AllPsych, 2003). Human experiences can then be understood through the assessment of motivation based on these drives (Pine, 1985).
Freud also believed that through a process of early psychosocial and psychosexual development, personality development can be understood. The way in which the driving forces influence personality
relates to the structural model applied by Freud, which includes the presence of the id, ego and superego (AllPsych, 2003). The way in which the id, ego and superego
progress over time underscores the influence that early childhood experiences have on the way in which an adult learns to function in the world. The relational understanding of these
three components of identity are linked to experiential factors and the conscious and subconscious mind, which Freud argued could be understood through elements of the dream state. The story
