was popular closer to the turn of the century when the Sherman antitrust and Clayton antitrust Acts were implemented. Now, in 1998, long after the trend in such legislation began,
a new economic disaster has erupted in a new wave of antitrust activity. The Justice Department sued Visa and MasterCard, in October for limiting competition in the credit card industry1.
The lawyers for Visa and MasterCard would be wise to review the case against Microsoft at this time. The cases are going on concurrently. A student writing on this
subject will want to understand the credit card market in order to effectively argue a case for the company in question. The market must be explained to the court, inclusive

been lodged against the two giant card companies, Visa and MasterCard. Representing Visa, I want to first address a few points and then explain why the complaint is ludicrous. The
