society. In "Antigone" and "Oresteia" we are given very powerful images of female and male conflicts that arise due to the interest/values of a particular gender. In some cases we see females move into the realm of men, forcing their interests/values upon the men while also involving themselves with some of the same interests/values possessed by men. In the following paper we examine "Antigone" and "Oresteia" separately as they involve perspectives of the interests/values of men and women. The paper then follows up with a discussion and summary which compares the two. Antigone It would hard to argue that Antigone is not a story about the interests/ values of men and women. That is because it is a story that essentially presents us with a very intelligent and powerful woman, Antigone, who convinces the women of the town to refrain from giving sex to their husbands unless they refuse to engage in war. As such, the entire story is based on the interests/values of men and women, illustrating how they differ. However, when we step away from the obvious, and look at the individuals we find that there is a great deal of variation. For example, some of the women lie to Antigone because their interests/values lie in their men. While they do not want their men to go to war, they want sex just as much as their husbands. They lie, and make up excuses, so they can go home and be with their husbands. In this respect we see the interests/values of some men and woman being the same in relationship to the inherent needs of the human race. With the primary character of Antigone, however, we have a woman whose interests/values are similar to mens in some ways, yet also very different. She places ...
