The trend towards anti-globalisation can be seen to have affected Canada in a number
of significant ways. On the one hand, those who support globalisation see Canada as falling behind in the international markets due to the recent emphasis on provincial rather than federalism,
and are concerned with the implications for Canada if protestors continue to target meetings of international organisations connected with world trade.
On the other hand, those who are against globalisation consider that
there are a number of reasons why Canadian policies should be restructured in order to protect the country from what is seen as the juggernaut of international trade and international
finance. It would be useful, therefore, to look at the implications of globalisation and the reasons why Canadians are opposed to it, as well as the perspective of those who
consider it would be beneficial for the nation, and the elements which Canadian anti-globalisation activists have in common with those of other nations.
