This 14 page paper looks at different aspects of the way in which Australia is dealing with terrorism. The first part of the paper looks at the US and the UK in terms of community and legislation order to gives a framework and context against which Australia may be judged. with terrorism in terms of community and legislation there are some very similar themes, with the use of political motivation and the fear to drive through measures which reduce freedom
and liberty. The United States has taken several measures through the development of the powers of Homeland security. The entrance into the US has been further restricted that the measures
and allowances seen in the past, there are some visa waiver schemes for those entering, but this has been tightened up and only those with machine readable passports and for
passports issues after 2006 those with biometric data will be eligible for the visa waiver programmes. The entrance into the US also sees the visitors having their finger print scanned
and a photograph taken. The requirements also increased further in October 2005 when as part of the information required the place where the visitor was staying for the first night
also had to be submitted with the passenger list by the airline as well as appearing on the visa waiver forms. The aim is to know who is in the
country and have sufficient data to help trace any suspects but these are equally for outstayed visas as well as for security. Internally there has been a very strong
movement towards nationalism. Following September the 11th there was a very strong sense of community, the tragedy brought the citizens of the country together in horror at the events. This
was also used by the government to force though legislation that many believe had a hidden agenda as well as simply being used to prevent terrorism. The controversial Patriot
Act was drafted prior to the events of September 11th gained a great deal of support as it gave government agencies the power to snoop and observe anyone in order
