every has the right to believe what they want and think what they want as long as it does not impinge on the freedom of others. For many years this
has been the basis of UK and US law. Discrimination on the basis of religion may be seen as a fundamental wrong, making a judgment and acting on that
judgment based only on the foundation of a persons religions appears short sighted and unfair. The basis of equality in society and all men being equal before the law, which
is seen in both the UK and the US is the basis of anti discrimination laws, but these are treated very differently in the US and the UK (Munro, 2001).
In both countries there is legislation on the subject. However, no amount of legislation can be effective if it is not enforced
(Anonymous, 1993). Furthermore, it has also been noted that were the legislation or statutes are very specific they may also be used by those wishing to discriminate by outline the
ways in which they maybe able to legally avoid any recriminations for their actions (Feldblum, 2000, Alexander and Cole, 1997). Therefore, legislation will also influence public policy directly or indirectly
as a result of the influence on the policy or the people formulating and implementing the policy. The first aspect that we
