is a secretary and her husband works as a software engineer. When Sara and her family first moved in, she asked me if there were any Moravian churches in town
and I found this intriguing as I had never heard of this denomination. I explained to Sara about my assignment and she was pleased to be asked about being a
Moravian, as this is clearly an important part of her life. The interview lasted a little over an hour. Sara was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She
explained that Moravian churches abound in this area due to the fact that central North Carolina was originally settled by Moravians in the latter part of the eighteenth century. Moravians
were actually the first Protestant reform sect, as they questioned many practices of the Roman Catholic Church a full 60 years prior to Martin Luther and the beginning of the
Reformation (Our History). John Hus (1369-1415), a professor of philosophy and rector at the University of Prague, began a protest movement that resulted in the formation of the Unitas Fratrum
(Unity of Brethren), which the official name of the Moravian Church (Our History). The Moravians draw their popular name from the fact that the church began in the regions
of Bohemia and Moravia, which are now part of the Czech Republic (Our History). One aspect of Moravian life that Sara related had a familiar ring, as I have
heard of Wachovia Bank. According to Sara, this bank was started in Winston-Salem, and when her mother worked for Wachovia in the 1940s, you had to be Moravian in order
