Earl Gideon, a prisoner in the Florida penal system who felt that he had been wrongfully imprisoned because he requested and was refused counsel at his trial. Gideon felt at
the time that he had been denied a Constitutional right. He was unaware that, although many legal minds agreed with him, the law read that the court could appoint a
lawyer for someone only under very unusual circumstances that expressed extreme need. Thesis : This book illustrates dramatically that, although there are flaws in the U.S. justice system,
which allow inequalities to occur, the system works. Lewis doesnt try to portray the Supreme Court as perfect; however, through this case, he shows how a previously made poor decision
