young boy who excelled at everything he tried, but what ultimately caught his passion was photography, with his photographs of Yosemite catching the eye of many people in the country,
perhaps even helping make Yosemite the landmark it is today. The following paper examines the life and work of Ansel Adams. Ansel Adams
Born in 1902 in San Francisco "He grew up in a house overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and had a strong appreciation for beauty. By 1908 Adams was
an enormously curious and gifted child, and began a precarious and largely unsuccessful journey through the rigid structure of the public school system" (ABC.com, 2007). When he was 12 he
taught himself how to play piano and he became very proficient in music, but hated the discipline needed (ABC.com, 2007). It would be only 2 years later that he talked
his parents into going to Yosemite for a vacation and there he took his first picture, using a box Brownie camera that his parents had given him (ABC.com, 2007).
As the years went on he continued to take photographs and steadily began to gain powerful recognition as a great visual artist. His
work was becoming well known and apparently he could not really keep up with the demands for his pictures, many of them of Yosemite and natural elements. He also accepted
"commercial photography assignments, one of his first being catalogue pictures for Gumps, the San Francisco specialty store" and worked for Yosemite in taking pictures for the National Park (Ansel Adams:
