The author discusses the component part of an electronic portfolio system and various ways that such portfolios have been assessed. The section on differentiating between portfolio and assessment management systems is particularly informative and this discussion outlines why this differentiation is important, explaining how confusion between the two terms makes it difficult for research to validate pedagogical practices.
