Dillard (year) maintains that what she terms as "letting go" is the most effective means of truly seeing. According to Dillard (year), letting go enables
the viewer to see beneath the surface, beyond the obvious. Dillard (year) defines "analyzing and prying" and "letting go" as the primary ways of seeing, but also leads into
these two divisions by discussing and giving examples of constructing and "artificial obvious" and seeing as a matter of verbalization. Artificial Obvious There
is much truth in Dillards (year) statement, "But I dont see what the specialist sees, and so I cut myself off, not only from the total picture, but from the
various forms of happiness" (140). One of the greatest examples of seeing in a different way - a specialized way - is that of watching the activity of a
single plant cell under a microscope. Green chloroplasts align themselves along the cell wall, zooming around the perimeter in the manner of a line of NASCAR racers on an
oval track. They exist only to absorb as much light energy as they can, so that the plant can combine that energy with other items it collects through its
