complexity of mankind. It is a very personal essay that speaks to the reader of Dillards dreams. In those dreams we can see things that may relate to our own
perception of life and the meaning of life, but for the most part it is an essay that relates to Dillard and her own desire to live naturally and simply.
The following paper examines her essay. The Beginning The beginning of Dillards essay starts with a simple and yet very intriguing, description of a weasel. She brings the
reader into her own way of thinking, that being how intriguing a weasel could be, by offering the story of an eagle with a weasel skull attached to its neck.
In this we, the reader, are brought into a position where we find nature intriguing. Then she moves into describing her little area in which she walks, an area
essentially smack in the middle of civilization, yet a pocket of nature that seems to ignore that civilization. This is the quiet and secretive and almost magically enduring spot wherein
she spots the weasel, which takes us to the middle of her essay. The Middle In this particular section of the essay Dillard has come face to face with
the weasel. All existence seems to be put on hold and she cannot remember this empty space of time that the two brains seemed locked together. In this instant, this
minute perhaps, she forgot all else and merely existed in the weasels brain, and he hers. Without her going into detail yet we see that there was a powerful sense
of losing oneself in the mind of simplicity and nature, in losing ones worries and focus on being a human while looking at a very natural and uncomplicated animal.
