                                                    that can be seen as socially and historically relevant. The following paper analyzes the contributions made by these poems in terms of historical relevance.   Her Kind 		This poem  
                                                
                                                    speaks strongly of the power of women and the power of faith in terms of a faith that is based on nature. It speaks of witches and the burning of  
                                                
                                                    witches. Sexton discusses the women who have burned for their actions and beliefs in a manner wherein we see her proud to call herself such a woman. This presents us  
                                                
                                                    with not only a commentary on the patriarchal society but the ignorant society that would burn a woman for being a supposed witch. We see this very strongly in the  
                                                
                                                    following lines: "I have gone out, a possessed witch/ haunting the black air, braver at night;/ dreaming evil, I have done my hitch/ over the plain houses, light by light:/  
                                                
                                                    lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind./ A woman like that is not a woman, quite./ I have been her kind (Sexton 1-7).  		In these lines we see a power  
                                                
                                                    that is illustrating the power that was possessed by these women, but not the power that the men and women of the time thought they possessed. She mentions evil, but  
                                                
                                                    her poem is perhaps sarcastically referring to the women as those who seek evil. It is a social and historical commentary on the burning of witches although they were only
