(1994) attempt to sharpen the ever-blurred line between good science and bad science where animal experimentation is concerned, contending how the public does not comprehend either the difference of or
the need for certain types of testing arenas, choosing instead to lump all research laboratories in one common category where animal treatment is concerned. There is simply no contesting
the fact that animal experimentation has rendered myriad cures for human disease, a reality that without which contemporary society would not know of the extent of scientific breakthroughs that have
occurred throughout the century (MacKenzie, 2004). Longer life expectancy, better quality of life and the very ability to save lives is the basis upon which animal research is considered
invaluable to human existence. Almost all major medical discoveries throughout the twentieth century can be attributed in great part to the role animals played in the research process, not
the least of which includes cancer, Alzheimers, AIDS, multiple sclerosis and sickle cell anemia. Research on domestic animals (cattle, swine, sheep, goats, poultry, horses, and aquatic species) at land
grant institutions is integral to improving the global competitiveness of US animal agriculture and to resolving complex animal and human diseases (Ireland et al, 2008, p. 2797). Logically speaking,
the use of animals in medical experimentation removes the torture inherent to the only viable alternative: human beings. Vivisections start within the confines of religion set into motion a
phenomenal opportunity for the scientific community to pursue medical research unlike anything it would have been able to do with human cadavers. Had it not been for animals replacing
humans in medical experimentation, there is no telling the extent to which the discovery process would have been weakened due to moral issues and preventing the breakthrough of such critical
