the U.S.1 The cause of this strife within the American branch of the Anglican Church is primarily over the belief of the breakaway congregations that the Episcopal Church leadership has
departed from traditional Anglican dogma by appointing an openly gay bishop, Gene Robinson, who was elected Bishop of New Hampshire in 2003. As a result of this movement, which seeks
to severe ties with the Episcopal Church, a number of parishes are endeavoring to establish different ecclesiastical arrangements that tie them to the Anglican Communion, but are separate from those
of the Episcopal Church. Some Anglican Communion provinces, several of which are located in Africa, are working with these dissenting churches to establish a separate identity for the dissenting
Episcopal congregations. The following literature review will, first of all, present the history of this debate and the issues involved, which presents the position that the schism between the dissenting
Anglican congregations and the Episcopal Church are too severe to ever be healed. However, the reviewed literature also shows that there is common ground between the dissenting congregations and, therefore,
it is possible for these breakaway churches to form a communion or fellowship that can participate as a fully-fledged member of the global Anglican Communion. As this suggests, this project
is intended to propose a viable solution that would bring the multiple jurisdictions of the Anglican Church into one fellowship communion. Background information The Anglican Communion consists of 70
