present. Her life and work have often been the subject of great focus and controversy. This is perhaps because she has never given up any fight she felt was worth
fighting, and stood against many of the actions of the United States in relationship to one subject or another. The following paper examines some of her past and her present,
discussing her position on the FBIs most wanted list, and her activism and teaching today. Angela Davis Angela Davis was born in Alabama in 1944 (Burns, 2001). She
went to college and later "joined the Communist Party in 1968 and suffered discrimination like many blacks during the late 1960s for her personal political beliefs and commitment to revolutionary
ideals" (Burns, 2001). Because of her insistence to be heard she was seen as a serious threat to the system of the United States. As one early example, despite qualifications
and intelligence, she was turned down for an appointment as a philosophy lecturer in California in 1970 because she was seen as a threat (Burns, 2001). During this time
in her life she was seemingly always fighting against one injustice or another, a reality that made her very disliked by the government. She worked to try to free particular
prisoners who were apparently being held wrongly. It was this situation that ultimately led her to be on the FBIs most wanted list for the Soledad Brothers tried to escape
in 1970. During the attempted escape "the trial judge and three people were killed...Although not at the crime scene, Davis was implicated when police claimed that the guns used had
