that in mind the following paper examines and reviews Wheatcrofts book "The Habsburgs, Embodying Empire." The Habsburgs One of the most intriguing aspects of Wheatcrofts book is that
which addresses the almost mythological existence of this family. He notes that many families, especially in 19th century Europe, tried to instill themselves as legends, but that only perhaps the
Habsburgs actually achieved this success and they did so centuries prior to the 19th century. They are a powerful family, a very pretentious family, who actually incorporated into their history
the heroes of the Babenberg dynasty who were comprised of a dynasty that had preceded them as the dukes of Austria. The Habsburgs were incredibly good at offering propaganda
and mythological outlooks which supported them and their offspring. Through the manipulation of the people through such endeavors this family has remained in power for perhaps 500 years. Wheatcroft illustrates
how they have always been an incredibly focused and a very driven family who is dedicated to their power. And Wheatcroft examines how each generation seems to possess something of
the same drive and the same vision, keeping this family alive and thriving and powerful. Much of Wheatcrofts book is devoted to illustrating how the Habsburg dynastys myth evolved
beginning with the 14th century and moving through to the reign of Charles VI. He focuses on what he deems the "Divine Will" as it is associated with this family
