shortchanging themselves of the already brief time here on earth. Life is pure pleasure, which is what Marvells poem is trying to convince the mistress. One must partake
in these pleasures in order to gain a true meaning of what life is all about. By always planning yet never participating, there will come a day when all
those plans no longer hold any meaning. After one dies, there is nothing left to dream, nothing left to achieve. This is why what Marvell writes is so
critically important: If one does not know how to appreciate all of lifes offerings, one is not taking full advantage of being alive.
The literary manner by which Marvell accomplishes this thematic expression consists of a combination of diction, imagery, figurative language, rhythm and tone. For Marvell, this particularly intriguing work of verbal
art is directed at a woman with whom he so desires to have a romantic affair. In his attempts to persuade her to consent, he paints a mental image
of how events would take place if he possessed all the time in the world. With unabashed courage and eloquent imagery, the author speaks of how he would gently
