with an ego the size of Henry VIIIs. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that Andrew Jackson served as a lightning rod for change. He was the first President
who truly was a man of the people; they admired and trusted him because he was one of them. During Jacksons two terms as President, he redefined the concept
of the Executive Branch, and as one historian noted, "The presidential office he left in 1837 was not the one he entered in 1829" (Moser 26). Unlike the previous six
Presidents of the United States, Andrew Jackson was no aristocratic plantation owners son. His parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson were poor immigrants from Northern Ireland who settled in
the Carolinas (uncertain as to whether it is North or South), and were the parents of two sons, Robert and Hugh. In 1767, while clearing land for their house,
the senior Andrew Jackson was killed shortly before his third son and namesake was born on March 15 (Andrew Jackson: The First Roughshod President). Growing up as he did
in the backwoods country, Jacksons education was sketchy at best (Andrew Jackson). However, he mastered the skill of reading well enough to get a job at the age of
