When examining whether or not anti-Semitism is an anomaly or simply a fact of the human condition, it is important for the student
to acknowledge the fact that Jews have been one of the most persecuted of all peoples throughout history. Their pursuits to survive as both a people and a religion
have been paved with pits and valleys from the time they began the struggle to reclaim what has been lost to political and social strife. The Jews have survived
five wars in fifty years, having lost one-third of their population to Nazi genocide alone; with that statistic, there has had to be a substantial amount of survival strategies for
Israel to ultimately establish themselves as a global military power. The efforts of the Jews to replace the 1.5 million children who perished in concentration camps are an extension
of the survival strategies to help those who live today amid continued anti-Semitism. While procreation has helped replace those who were killed during the Holocaust, the Jewish population as
a whole has only been fully recovered during the past decade to where it was some sixty years ago. "Perhaps you understand why Israelis say that every Jew matters"
(Anonymous 24A). The manner in which Schwarz-Barts story serves to address the concepts of anti-Semitism, prejudice and racism is to demonstrate how humanity
