kingdoms and most disputes seemed to be handled through some sort of warfare or another. The following paper examines ancient warfare as it involves battle such as Megiddo and Kadesh,
and cultures such as the Assyrians and Egyptians. Ancient Warfare One of the very first battles ever recorded is the battle of
Megiddo. "The battle took place in the twenty-second year" of the Egyptian Pharaoh, Thutmose IIIs, reign in approximately the year of 1460 BC (Moerbeek, 1998). While there are doubtless many
battles which took place before this particular battle, "it was the first for which any account exists, making it the first battle recorded in history" (Moerbeek, 1998). In presenting
a brief account of this battle it is noted that Thutmose took his army away from Egypt and moved into a region that is known today as Israel (Moerbeek, 2006).
He did this in order to reestablish his power over the Levant (Moerbeek, 2006). On the other side of this battle lay the King of Kadesh who also wanted possession
of Megiddo (Carney, 2006). "When Thutmose III heard that the King of Kadesh had a plan for attacking Egypts holdings in Syria-Palestine,
he seized the element of surprise and mobilized his army to attack Kadesh" (Carney, 2006). There were many armies stationed near Megiddo and caution was advised by the Pharaohs aids
(Moerbeek, 2006). However the Pharaoh ignored the warnings and actually put himself at the front of the column that advanced (Moerbeek, 2006). The next day he attacked and "Historians estimate
