Classical Greece: The Hermes of Praxiteles is from 343 BC and is made from marble. It measures 2.1 meters in height. "The sculpture, the
diamond of Olympia, represents Hermes, the messenger of the Gods, holding the small Dionysos, who tries to take something from his hand" (Papakyriakou/Anagnostou, 2010). In this the viewer understands that
this statue is part of the religion, and the culture, that was Classical Greece. It stood to remind people of the gods and goddesses and to remind them of their
culture for people did not have books and any stories were conveyed through oral and artistic traditions. As such it is influenced by the ideals of the people, the religion
of the people. Being that storytelling was the way to pass along religion, this influenced the sculptures of the people and in turn the sculptures stood to remind the people
and influence their devotion to their gods and goddesses. Hellenistic Greece: The Winged Victory of Samothrace is from 190 BC and
