Venus of Laussel Still yet another stone Venus figure, this one dates to 22,000 BC and is believed to "have been incised on rock with the stone tools common to the Paleolithic era. Minoan Snake Goddess This is a fertility goddess that is directly related to the people of Crete and is dated approximately 1600 BC. "The people of Crete seem to have worshipped a mother goddess sacred to many places and manifest in many forms. This Snake Goddess--who shakes two snakes as an animal sits on her head--may have been used as part of this ritual" (Anonymous Stone Age Goddesses: Page 1, 202; goddess.html). Illustrated in other archeological evidence, the open bodice and flounced skirt was a favored style worn by Minoan women.
