seems that in understanding ancient Egypt it is also important to study and understand the Gerzean culture, which is essentially the beginning of the Egyptian culture. One author notes, "Cultural
development in predynastic Egypt is divided between the regions of Upper and Lower Egypt because the cultures there developed at different rates" and most evidence of the Gerzean culture comes
from Upper Egypt (Gerzean Culture). In Egyptian culture it was Upper Egypt that ultimately overtook and controlled all of Egypt (Kingdoms of Ancient Egypt). In light of this information it
seems that one could easily see the Gerzean culture as the ancient Egyptian culture. It should also be understood that a major reason for the development of all cultures
in the area, both upper and lower, were reliant on the existence and the power of the Nile River. It was because of the Nile that people could settle down.
It possessed, and still does possess, the natural condition of flooding and then leaving very fertile land behind. It was a perfect location to begin agriculture and the settlement of
