and military prowess. This paper compares the ancient cultures and governments of Greece and Rome. Discussion When we think of Greece and Rome, we are thinking of an incredibly rich
and complex field of study. Both of these civilizations are legendary for their structure, for what they did and for what they left behind. The first thing that comes
to mind is the well-known fact that the Romans were brilliant imitators. If they couldnt figure out something for themselves, they were just as likely to "borrow" it from Greece
as they were to keep working on it. For instance, they took the Greek gods and translated them into deities they could worship as well; that is, they took the
attributes they liked and modified them to suit their own needs. Sometimes they renamed them, sometimes they did not. For instance, Zeus, the King of the Gods, became Jupiter while
his wife Hera became Juno. They were still the King and Queen of Heaven, only now they were in the Roman mold. Likewise, they transformed the God of War, Ares,
from a mindless bloodthirsty bully to the epitome of military strength and virtue. The Romans in fact borrowed a great deal from the Greeks, which makes it all the
stranger that it is the Roman Empire that grew and prospered, and not the earlier one. Part of the reason for that can be found in the form of governments
of the two civilizations. The film 300 did a lot more than give women a nice long look at Gerard Butlers six-pack, it also ignited something of a resurgence of
interest in the ancients, in this case the Spartans. While the film is based on a graphic novel and is designed for entertainment purposes, it has some kernels of truth
