have depended on knowing when to plant, when to harvest and when the herds would migrate. The ability to recognize star patterns would have provided some simple mnemonics for seasonal
change" (p. 264). The ancient people truly took advantage of the sky, using it as a map to plan their day. Today, people are much more removed from these mundane
things, with the exception of the widespread use of the controversial astrological calendar or horoscope. In other words, people are less aware and in contact with the sky. They rely
on man made items-even those that refer to the planets-rather than seeing these things for themselves. Of course astronomy was used for more than just a way to determine harvest
or weather patterns and to determine when the sun would rise. Astronomy would provide people with a key to their origins and help to explain how and why the planet
Earth had come into being. Astronomy is a science but it has profound implications and goes to religion and philosophy. When gazing up at the sky, the sun is viewed
but so are a myriad of planets, and this has been something quite intriguing to scientists and ordinary people alike. Throughout history, there have been a number of attempts to
explain the way in which the planets moved ("Ancient Greek Astronomy," 2007). Aristotle for example, who lived between 384 and 322 BC explained that all of the bodies of
