connects us to the past, our past. In the following paper we examine two ancient pieces of art. The art pieces discussed are the Greek statue "Statuette of a seated
harp player," ca. 2800-2700 B.C. and the Egyptian sculpture, "Bowl with Human Feet," ca. 3750-3550 B.C.E.. The paper discusses each work separately and then compares the two. The paper finishes
with a discussion that focuses on this particular writers personal preference. Statuette of a Seated Harp Player This particular sculpture, available at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The
Collection: Greek and Roman Art: View 1) website, http://metmuseum.org/collections/view1.asp?dep=13&full=0&item=07%2E286%2E87, is a very geometrical looking statue that is very angular and very smooth. It is carved form marble and stands 11
1/2 inches high. As the title implies, it is a sculpture of an individual, presumably a man, sitting in a chair and playing a harp. Now, while we may assume
that such a sculpture is only meant to depict a common scene perhaps, we note in the following discussion that most, if not all sculptures from this time period imparted
far more meaning that representing daily life. According to one particular author, "The Cycladic civilization of the Aegean sea flourished at about the same time as the early Egyptian
and Mesopotamian civilizations (c. 3000-2000 B.C.) and is considered the forerunner of the first truly European civilization- Greece. The sculpture produced by the artisans of the Cyclades islands was
very unique compared to the art being produced by the Egyptians and Mesopotamians" and as such can be easily told apart from the sculptures of surrounding areas (Cycladic Art). What
