as a strong, warrior-like figure, rather than emphasizing his meek pacifistic qualities as other poetic treatments have. For instance, the poem refers to Christ as "the Warrior", and uses grandiose
language such as "Mighty King, Lord of the Heavens" when describing him. The language even seeks to position Christ as a traditional protagonist in the classical poetic sense, referring to
him directly as "the Hero... strong and stouthearted". The use of such language is somewhat at odds with the typical gentle depictions of Christ, but it was necessary to appeal
to the sensibilities of a Pagan audience, who would have regarded that gentleness as weakness, due to their innate cultural valuation of strength and warrior ability. 2.) The dream
is told from the perspective of the cross (the rood). How does the rood portray itself? (5-8 sentences) The most interesting aspect of "The Dream of the Rood" is
that it actually takes place from the perspective of the Rood, or the cross upon which Jesus was crucified. Consequently, the Rood portrays itself in a personified, sentient manner. This
