the numerous films based on it. This paper analyzes one of the key scenes in the book. Discussion The scene well look at closely is toward the end of the
novel, and is one of the climactic (no pun intended) episodes, in which the Count is seducing Mina Harker. Its "Chapter XXI" and is subtitled "Dr. Sewards Diary"; the scene
is told from his point of view. Its important for a number of reasons, including the fact that this is one of the few times the other characters interact with
the Count for a reasonably long period of time; because of Renfields insights into the nature of the vampire, and because of its highly symbolic character. The first part of
the scene recounts Draculas attack on Renfield, which results in Renfields death. Dr. Van Helsing and Dr. Seward try to save him, and in doing so, allow him, with his
dying words, to tell us what the vampire is really like. He describes the way Dracula can transform into a mist, and the control he has over rats; these are
very useful pieces of information but even more importantly, they make Dracula more real to the people now involved with him. He is no longer a shadowy figure that seems
like a figment of someones diseased imagination; he is real, he exists, and hes there, in the sanitarium, at that moment. The revelation that the vampire is close is both
terrifying and energizing; terrifying because of what he is and what hes capable of, but energizing in that it sends Van Helsing, Seward, Art and Quincey to the Harkers room
to make sure that theyre all right. And then we come to one of the most amazing parts of the book: the confrontation of these men with Count Dracula. They
