School, which is the most renowned boarding school in India, social aesthetics was one of his prime considerations, and he saw this in terms of chronicling the schools physical and
social environment, as well as the factors of ideology and the elements comprising the student hierarchy. While the author could ascertain some information from school archives and by observing the
rituals, he also realized that he needed to observe individual students directly in order to ascertain social aesthetics at a "sensory, emotional and intellectual level" (MacDougal 2006, p. 123).
From the projects onset, MacDougal faced innumerable and complex challenges in carrying out this ethnographic research. First of all, the BBC editor who commissioned the project and encouraged MacDougall to
pursue it was replaced, and his replacement was not supportive. However, a shift from film to using a video camera, downscaling the project handled this challenge. He regards to the
project itself, MacDougall had to develop trusting intimate relationships with the students who were featured in his films, work out the approach of the five films that comprised the project,
and thereby convey the culture and the way in which the student understood the school from their personal perspectives. MacDougall describes this process and how he successfully contended with these
