2009; National Real Estate Investor , 2009). In this climate it is natural, that with Ford also suffering declines in sales there will be concerns, especially as poor performance has
significantly impacted on the capital structure the firm. To examine this the first stage is to look at the firm, some general background and the way that are competing
as well as the financial performance that has been seen over the last few years, and the consider how this has impacted on the capital structure and interpret this in
terms of financial theory. Ford was founded on the 16th of June 1903 with the grand total of $28,000; the corporation papers
were filed in Michigan by Henry Ford and 11 other associates (Ford, 2009). However, later disagreements on the way the company should expand saw Ford become the sole investor (Fernando,
2007). The company developed with arguably the greatest innovations occurring in the 1950s with the advent of automatic transmission and air-conditioning becoming available (Godin, 1999). The completion of the interstate
