Introduction The 2000 film Men of Honor is the story of Carl Brashear. Carl was an African American man in the Navy at a time when African Americans were not
really allowed to do much in the way of obtaining positions in the military. It is a very powerful film that is well done and encourages the viewer to perhaps
know more about Brashear. The following paper examines the film, analyzing elements of the story. Analysis of the Film Men of Honor First and foremost, as mentioned, this
is a story of an African American man in the Navy at a time when African Americans were not given much responsibility. As such the film is clearly biased towards
the African American who was belittled, oppressed, and treated as though they were of little value in society. It is clearly making a statement in this regard because Brashear is
a man determined to rise above that position and become something no other African American had ever been, a navy diver. While this is true, and what the film depicts
in relationship to the oppression of African Americans, it is still biased in illustrating how whites had the power and would not always be willing to relinquish that power. At
the same time it should be noted that the leading actor, aside from Cuba Gooding Jr., is a white man, Robert DeNiro, because all films about minorities seem to have
