of 2004. The article focuses on the fact that while there is a crisis in the Ukraine, the Untied States and Russia are interfering a great deal (Steele, 2004). While
the article involves the Ukraine to a great extent, Russias role is highlighted. It is noted that the Ukraine is an important neighbor to Russia (2004). The article essentially defends
Russias stake in the matter. Is Russia too imposing? The author states: "Putin has been clumsy, but to accuse Russia of imperialism because it shows close interest in adjoining states
and the Russian-speaking minorities who live there is a wild exaggeration" (2004, p. 4). In respect to Russias role in the affairs of the region, the author goes on to
explain that the Ukraine has really been prodded by Washington and not Moscow (Steele, 2004). In other words, the author explains that the United States is really the country
that is meddling and not the Russian neighbor that really has more at stake. Any nation that is close to another will end up in the politics simply because borders
are shared. The author seems to emphasize this fact. Also, by pointing out that the U.S. is really the nation that is meddling, it further presents an improved picture of
Russia. The article goes on to criticize the United States because it refuses to let go of its "cold war policy" and continues to hover around Russia (2004).
The U.S. seems to want to pull all former Soviet republics into its grasp (2004). There is also a United States campaign that seems to be set against Yanukovich (2004).
