In the first ad, dark hair and tawny skin suggest Hispanic descent ("Magic") and, in the second, the family suggests the same social class and traditional family structure. The daughters in the first ad are running ahead of their parents, who are smiling in appreciation of their childrens enthusiasm for being at Walt Disney World. In the second ad ("One"), two daughters hold hands with Mickey Mouse, with their parents in the background smiling and laughing at the pleasure of their children. In both ads, the children express enthusiasm for the product, i.e., Walt Disney World, while their parents play the role of loving spectators. 2. In the first ad, the mother is smiling at her daughters enthusiasm, but the fathers smile is directed towards his wife, which suggests that he is enjoying her pleasure, as well as that of his children. They hold hands and appear to be a loving couple. The couple in the second ad, likewise, appears to be loving, as they also hold hands. They both gaze at their children, with the mother laughing. In both ads, the families appear to be loving and happy. The ads also share the characteristic that the advertising copy focuses on the advantages of the offers being made in the ad. The first ad stresses the flexibility of purchasing a Disney vacation package and the second stresses the savings inherent in the offer of a free day at the resort. 3. As both ads are designed to sell a product, i.e., Walt Disney World, both pictures show scenes from the resort, rather than images of family life.
