most widely read books in history. It is a work that details the strategies and philosophies involved with war yet is also a book that has been read by many
who are not obviously involved in war. For example, sports players and business workers are different types of people who have gained a great deal by reading Tzus work. With
that in mind the following paper presents an analysis of the work. The Art of War First and foremost we note that Tzus work clearly argues that war
is a very real and essential part of life. He states "The art of war is of vital importance to the State. It is a matter of life and death,
a road either to safety or to ruin" (I 1-2). If an individual is to analyze or critique the work they must perhaps understand that this is the entire thesis
upon which Tzus work is based. If an individual, for example, believes that this statement of Tzus is not true, then all of Tzus work will be seen as invalid.
From the perspective of this particular writer there is serious doubt as to whether war has to be an inevitable reality in the existence of mankind. But, one must also
consider that if an entity, such as a nation, is to grow and become prosperous there will be enemies and as such perhaps war is essential. So, while we may
not like the fact that war is perhaps a natural part of life, we certainly must accept it for the sake of analyzing Tzus work. It should perhaps also be
noted that Tzus work is in many ways a philosophical as well as logical look at the realities of war. His work lays out the most essential and most basic
