terrorism then it is categorized as an attack which is considered to be wanton, immoral and unjustified. The definition of terrorism is different depending on what agency or group
of people who may be trying to define it. Any precise definition of terrorism leans toward relativism, most likely because particular acts of political violence are based on subjective
ideas and rarely if ever show any complete objectivity. Like most political ideas, the origin and meaning of the term terrorism has changed and evolved in response to circumstances. As
a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks, the idea of terrorism has gained notoriety among the political leaders of Europe, North American, the Middle East and Asia. The
phenomenon of terrorism is now recognized as an act within the context of a global struggle against particular systems of government. According to the European Union terrorism is defined
as actions which destroy the fundamental political, constitutional, economic or social structures of any country (Terrorism, 2005). Several attempts have been made to explain what causes terrorism. These theories
include sociological explanations, conflict theories, ideology explanations and medial theory explanations. In Erving Goffmans dramaturgical perspective, terrorism is defined as an indicator of, threat to, or frame for understanding
public order (Goffman, 1959). Whenever two or more strangers are brought together the issue of public order emerges. This would be one of the sociological explanations for terrorism.
