SA130ft.rtf My Left Foot is a film that encompasses broad emotional themes. However, explaining emotion is sometimes difficult as emotion is something that wells up inside people, churns their stomachs, brings tears to their eyes and propels them into a new state of consciousness. Suddenly, a loved one dies so the chip in the crystal vase no longer matters. A car accident allows a spouse to live and so the fact that a Porsche was demolished is inconsequential. Such incidents are perceived as miracles because human life is saved. Some film can create such emotion and viewers sometimes refer to these as "tear jerkers" or four tissue movies. Yet, in studying emotion in film, it should be kept in mind that there are things that are truly extraordinary and other things that are meant to torment, or keep a viewer in suspense. Films such as 8MM or Gone in 60 Seconds are meant to churn the adrenaline, prompt the emotions related to unfairness and rage, but they really do not pertain to the delicate emotions one has when they attend a childs graduation or see a grandchild give birth. A poor person giving away his or her last dollar is a more moving scenario than a rich person giving away a million. There are some things that are considered legitimate emotion provoking activity, and others that are somewhat akin to a superficial emotional prompting.
