a mothers love. Paraphrase In a corner of the room/ a woman sits./ She is my mother/ but my mother when she was a child./ She has been beaten/
and abused. As she grew up she grew stronger/ but that strength was aimed at being strong in beating me./ Now I am grown up and am strong too/
but I am pregnant/ and I fight that part of me inside/ that would beat my own child. In a corner of the room/ a woman sits./ It is my
mother/ a woman I hate/ and distrust./ All those beatings I received/ became something hard/ which I can see now in her eyes/ and her voice./ Even though she may
smile/ I almost find it impossible/ to look at her without remembering/ the feel of the beating/ on my back/ or the cruel nature/ of her voice/ and the look
in her eyes./ Maybe/ I will never be able to forget that and become someone different and better to my child. Connotation One of the most powerful words
