According to Moore, the quality of education in the United States is in such a sorry state that an idiot nation is emerging. He appears to be speaking
directly to John Q. Public (or the average American citizen/idiot) when he introduces his topic with the accusatory observation, "Do you feel like you live in a nation of idiots?
I used to console myself about the state of stupidity in this country by repeating this to myself: Even if there are two hundred million stone-cold idiots in this
country, that leaves at least eighty million who will get what Im saying" (Moore 132). Moore quickly follows up his thesis with his central idea by informing his readers
