story of one mans demise through his greed and his pursuit of power. And, it is also a tale which illustrates the demise of his wife as well, for she
was just as greedy and just as involved in putting her husband in a position of power. These two people could not leave well enough alone, as it related to
the predictions of some witches, and because they were determined to help these predictions along, thereby affirming their greed and pursuit of power, they lost everything in the end. In
the following paper we examine the play from perspectives which touch on these realities. The paper discusses the opening scene, the scene with the witches, the character of Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth, and the condition wherein Macbeth is king. Opening Paragraph of Macbeth The opening scene of Macbeth is one that presents us with a sense of doom,
as well as mystery. We see three witches who are briefly, yet powerfully, discussing the future. It is quite imaginable that the audience would see this dark scene as entrancing
and somewhat frightening. We can envision this when we hear the first witch ask, "When shall we three meet again/ In thunder, lightning, or in rain?" (I, i). The second
witch replies, "When the hurlyburlys done,/ When the battles lost and won" (I, i). We understand that Macbeth will be the focus of this story as it involves battles and
losses when we note that the only name mentioned is Macbeths. And, understanding that witches are perceived as knowing individuals that one did not wish to anger, we can assume
