the end of the book, the very worst in human nature is highlighted. The Lord of the Flies is about some
young boys who are stranded on an island, and they therefore develop their own society. Essentially, the author reveals how they develop when there are no outside influences to
guide them. Golding uses this situation to highlight his belief that human nature is inherently evil. The boys, without the aid of any outside influence, end up creating
a barbaric society and committing acts of pure evil. Piggy and Jack symbolize different extremes of human behavior, while Jack falls somewhere in between. Piggy follows every minute
instruction of his Aunts, while Jack lives entirely in the moment doing anything he pleases regardless of rules. Ralph sympathizes with Piggy and understands that society has certain rules
that need to be followed in order to prevent anarchy. In this way, the author is trying to show how the voices of reason (Piggy and Ralph) are the
only way of controlling mans inherently evil nature, although in this story those voices end up not being strong enough to override the evil that exists in Jack.
When they are first stranded on the island, Ralph becomes in charge as they all work together to make shelter and gather the
food they will need. But order soon gives way to chaos as the majority of the boys decided there is too much fun to be had. Ralph finds
that it becomes impossible to impose the much-needed order, and in fact the others are quick to start challenging his authority at every opportunity. Jack is the worst among
