The novel is a very powerful story about a woman and her journey in life. It is a story that speaks of many different things. It speaks of oppression for
the African American, oppression for women, desiring family and love, and desiring acceptance. It is a novel about growing and a novel about falling. The following paper analyzes elements of
the story, based on information requested by the student requesting the paper. The essay will discuss a summary, Celies personality, the main conflict, point of view, the setting, language devices
and the novels tone. Analysis of Elements in Alice Walkers The Color Purple In presenting a summary of the story one can well argue that it is a
story about Celie, but yet also a story about other people in her life. Celie, in the beginning, is a young girl who was sexually molested by a man she
thought was her father. She gave birth to two children which were taken away from her, and later raised unknowingly by her sister in Africa. She is married off to
a man who is much older than her and she suffers her abuse with him very quietly in the beginning. As the story progresses, and she grows older, she learns
about life, meeting Shug who is her husbands lover. She grows stronger and more intelligent as the story progresses and in the end she is reunited with her sister, her
children, and is a successful independent woman. Her story applies to all people, especially women, who struggle. Celies character, in the beginning, is very young, innocent, na?ve, and ignorant.
